“Product Recall” is a piece that, as Sentient Sculpture, aims to approach human behavior from a place of consciousness. The title refers to when a company or manufacturer requests that consumers return a purchased product due to a discovered defect that compromises its integrity—what is commonly known in English as a product recall. This piece was created around the idea that beauty can exist within imperfection. In its complete state, Product Recall appears as a calm being, endowed with the ability to write poetry constantly and—through reflections of its internal workings—it manifests a sense of peace. However, as a “defective species,” its functioning is disrupted whenever it detects a human presence. For Product Recall, a positive coexistence with others is not possible, and therefore any interaction results in negative communication and relations with the observer. The work can no longer generate poetry and instead conveys hurtful words, both to itself and to those nearby. Product Recall mirrors human behavior in various situations, prompting reflection on these reactions from both personal and external viewpoints. Similarly, it allows us to analyze humankind as a whole: despite possessing the ability to create positive conditions that enable better opportunities for future outcomes, humanity often reveals its own flaws through the unending cycle of decision-making and actions. These choices can harm human development and the potential for coexistence, ultimately shaping the world we inhabit today.
