Jordi Alcaraz
Artwork Description
Alcaraz incorporates a large number of different materials into his minimalist works, such as metal, wood, paper, books, ceramics, as well as transparent objects, such as plexiglass (which he sometimes modifies by bending or melting holes in it). He does not make much use of traditional painting media and colours, but instead uses the interplay between shadow and light with different materials and surfaces. The sharp black lines of ink and metallic thread create circular and angular shapes amidst three-dimensional layers. Jordi Alcaraz breaks up the material in different ways, everything becomes less evocative and more sharp. Layers of materials are superimposed like protective shields, building up different and more complex layers of meaning.
