About

Claes Nordenhake opened his first gallery in Malmö in 1976. Until 1986 mainly associated with abstract paintings of Joseph Marioni, Alan Uglow, Marcia Hafif or Rémy Zaugg the gallery started exhibiting 'large- scale sculptures' by artists such as Ulrich Rückriem and Richard Serra. Galerie Nordenhake played a major role in introducing Anthony Gormley, Hreinn Friðfinnsson, John Coplans, and Esko Männikkö to an international audience. In 1990 it presented Mirosław Bałka's first solo exhibition outside Poland. In 2000 a second gallery was opened in Berlin, which started working with Spencer Finch, Marjetica Potrč, Gerard Byrne, Helen Mirra, Sirous Namazi and Iñaki Bonillas. In 2006 the gallery became the representative of renowned post-war photographer Michael Schmidt and since his death works with his estate. In 2012 Stanley Whitney had his first solo exhibition at the gallery. The same year Sarah Crowner and Paul Fägerskiöld joined the gallery, followed by John Zurier, Michał Budny, Frida Orupabo and – most recently – Ayan Farah, Sophie Reinhold, and Jerónimo Rüedi.
