Susan Oliver Heard is a GIA certified Graduate Gemologist, Applied Jewelry artist, and Graduate Jeweler, mineral dealer, published writer, award winning curator and two time award winning jeweler.

She is the visionary behind Heard Gallery, and has spent over 30 years crafting jewelry inspired by her deep love for nature and wildlife. With a keen eye for stones and colors, she channels her passion for photography and her fascination with creatures like seahorses, crocodiles, and octopuses into her intricate designs. Each piece tells a story, capturing the essence of the animals she admires. Known for her functional artistry, Susan's designs not only honor the natural world but are also thoughtfully created to wear beautifully. Her accolades include winning the prestigious Jewelers of America CASE Award in 2024 and placing in the Jewelers for Children competition in 2004. With exhibitions at notable events like ZONA MACO in Mexico City 2024 and 2025, Round Top, TX 2024, and Telluride, CO 2024 Winter, her work continues to captivate collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Susan’s jewelry is a testament to her dedication to creativity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to nature.

Heard Gallery, formerly known as Cinnabar, opened its first brick & mortar  in 2013 featuring a solo show for world-renowned photographer George Krause. George Krause: San Miguel Exposed received the choice award fort he city wide Foto Septiembre. The gallery has been featured in national publications such as Artforum, Sculpture magazine, Garden & Gun, MSN. com, IN STORE magazine, National Jeweler, Jewelers of America, JCK, Centurion, Southern Jewelry News, San Antonio Express-News, San Antonio Report, and the San Antonio Current.

 

In Spring 2022, Susan relocated to Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico to create a new line of jewelry, objects, and boxes. The new development incorporates all the parts of minerals, jewelry, art, and curating. The debut of Heard Gallery in its new form opened in Mexico City at the 20th anniversary of ZONA MACO in Mexico City, February 2024.

 

The new Brick & Mortar location for Heard Gallery is in downtown Telluride, Colorado. This Feburary,  Heard Gallery will return to ZONA MACO in Mexico City and in March will return to Drift & Holler and debut at The Halles in Round Top, TX for the 2025 Spring Antiques Show.
