Artwork Description
Polyptych of 12 | 40.6 x 29.7 cm (each), 121.8 x 118.8 cm (total) "This set of canvases (12 in total) is part of the new series I've been producing Proverbs and Other Mysteries. The work alludes to the expression "Who are you in the bread line?" which questions the importance of someone in a given situation. They make up one of the strands of the series in which I deal with social events such as what recently happened in Cuiabá with a butcher's shop that had been distributing bones (with meat scraps) for a decade, once a week, and now three times a week, which has worsened with the pandemic. The queue to donate bones is nothing new, but it has become an unavoidable scourge, as millions of Brazilians are still socially vulnerable. From this event emerged the set of paintings that have the name of one of Jesus' apostles associated with their title, ordinary people, from different trades, in adversity with life, seen as "nobody relevant" - Osvaldo Carvalho.
